Public records, provided as is, not as advice.

These records come from New York City filings. We organize and present them, but we do not create them, and we cannot guarantee them. This page explains what that means for you.

01This site republishes public records

The filings shown here start life as applications filed with the New York City Department of Buildings and released by the city as public data. We copy, organize and present those records; we do not create them, inspect the properties, or decide what the city records.

NYC Building Data is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the City of New York, the Department of Buildings, or any other agency.

02No warranty of accuracy or completeness

The records are provided as they arrive from the source. They may contain errors introduced when they were filed or entered, may describe work that was later amended, withdrawn or abandoned, and may be missing for some properties or periods.

Contact details appear only where the city recorded them. Measured values such as dwelling units, stories and height are as reported on the application, not verified in the field.

We make no warranty, express or implied, that the data is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose, and we may correct, change or remove records at any time without notice.

03Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is legal, architectural, engineering, zoning, appraisal, tax, financial or investment advice, and using the site does not create a professional relationship of any kind.

For any decision that carries risk, consult a licensed professional and review the official record yourself.

04Verify before you rely on a record

A filing is an application describing proposed work. It is not an issued permit, an approval, a certificate of occupancy, or proof that work has started or finished.

Always confirm a filing against the official Department of Buildings record before relying on it for a transaction, a bid, an offer, a lease or a valuation.

05The service is provided as is

The site is offered on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Access may be interrupted, delayed or withdrawn, and data coverage may vary by dataset and period.

We do not promise that the site will be free of errors or interruption, or that any particular record will be available.

06Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NYC Building Data and the people who operate it are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from the data on this site or from your use of, or inability to use, the site. That includes direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary and punitive damages, and lost profits, lost business, lost opportunities, or decisions made in reliance on a record.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

07You use the data at your own risk

You are responsible for how you use the records and for the conclusions you draw from them, including any outreach you make to people named on an application.

08Indemnity

By using the site, you agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless NYC Building Data, its owners, operators, contributors and service providers from any claim, demand, loss, liability, cost or expense, including reasonable legal fees, that arises from your use of the site, your reliance on the data, or your breach of this disclaimer.

09People and firms named in the records

Applications name owners, applicants, architects, engineers and contractors because the city's public record includes them. Being named is not an allegation of any wrongdoing, and a record does not describe a company's current work, standing or affiliations.

If you believe a record about you or your firm is wrong, tell us and we will review it against the source.

10Changes to this disclaimer

We may update this page as the service or the source data changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and continued use of the site means you accept the current version.
